Stylist Spotlight: Sara Parker Bowles
Introducing Sara Parker Bowles, the creative force behind Wardrobe Revivals and now the founder of Wrapp10 – a fresh evolution of her original vision, where ‘Wardrobe Revivals’ transforms into a seamless digital experience.
As Wrapp10 (short for ‘Wardrobe Revivals App’) takes off, Sara shares her passion for timeless style, her must-have pieces, and insider tips on curating the perfect wardrobe.
What’s your idea of a perfect outfit?
Getting it just right: the holy grail of fashion…
On a more specific, personal note: tactile, lush fabrics, layers, incredible tailoring, a playful, surprising styling twist and the overall aura of effortlessness, irreverence and hitting exactly the right note … see Camilla Nickerson.
If you had to wear one designer for the rest of your life what would it be?
Prada or Celine by Phoebe Philo.
A favourite secret styling tip?
Wear one thing that’s a talking point and always make an effort.
Your least favourite fashion trend?
I’m not very snobby about fashion or trends, personal taste is subjective by definition and that’s fine by me. I just value individuality and being true to yourself - in style, but more importantly, in life. I guess that means I dislike sheep, or following the crowd. Dressing how you think you should dress instead of trusting your instincts and dressing how you truly want to dress is probably my bete-noir.
I know fashion can be overwhelming and intimidating, but that’s why a good stylist can really be a game-changer. I try to help my clients learn to trust their own instincts and stay true to themselves whilst also giving them invaluable shopping and styling tips that I have accrued along the way. And the result, hopefully, is a happy, confident client who will feel like the best version of themselves whilst learning to shop more intelligently and mindfully going forward.
What are the top three most worn pieces in your wardrobe?
Straight legged Levi’s 501’s I found in a charity shop last year, Brora knickers (bikini style, floral prints); Hommes Girls socks (white with HG logo); Prada grey cashmere crew neck;, Adidas Gazelles in ‘raspberry’; green bomber jacket by Sacai and black leather Isabel Marant knee high boots.
Your most treasured possession:
An art-deco inspired diamond ring made (and partly designed by me) by Wartski Jewellers
All-time favourite fashion shows?
Alexander McQueen s/s 1999 - for the theatre, brilliance and nostalgia
Chloe ss/04
Celine a/w 2010/2011
Celine s/s 2013
You’re never fully dressed without…
Comfort, oh… and a smile.
A piece you still wish you’d bought?
All of Miu Miu in the late 90’s
All of the s/s 04 Chloe collection
More 1920’s/1930’s vintage dresses from Virginia’s in Notting Hill (owned by Virginia Bates but sadly, no longer there) and this dress, I think it’s Tom Ford, Gucci (1999)
Your favourite place to shop?
I love a good market, and I know shopping for vintage isn’t what it once was, but I still get a high from finding a piece of clothing that is exactly what I was dreaming of. That might be a Beach Boys original tour t-shirt or a 1920’s nightgown that I can reconfigure as a dress, or a Japanese dressing gown - all of which I have found, in the past, at Portobello Market in Notting Hill or in LA. It’s just that thrill of finding something unique, with a lovely history. I also love Dover Street Market; HEWI, the realreal.com; Zara; Sign of the Times; Vinted (especially the French Vinted (vinted.eu) Vestiaire, TK Maxx and Yoox and I miss Browns and Kensington Market (but that’s going way back!)
What’s your idea of the perfect T-Shirt?
My favourite t-shirt ever was by Kova & T (Dasha Zhukova’s label which sadly no longer exists). I loved them because they were soft and thin but fitted. I have recently discovered Frances de Lourdes - quite pricey but amazing quality. I also rate Sunspel, Isabel Marant, Burberry and James Perse.
